About Central Library, CIT Kokrajhar


                The Central Library of CIT spread over 22,000 sq. feet area with independent building. The library is the liveliest place in the campus providing a safe, comfortable and friendly environment that enables learning and advancement of knowledge, and promotes discovery and scholarship. The mission of the Library is to facilitate creation of new knowledge through acquisition, organization and dissemination of knowledge resources and providing for value added services. At present, the library has a collection of more than 90000 Physical books and other resources like E-Books, E-Journals, CDs, News Papers etc. It also subscribes important daily newspapers and 1365 magazines. Library has subscribed IEEE (IEL-Online Level -II), five Subject Collection Science Direct with Complementary Access to Food Engineering Books, ASME, ASCE, ACM, Springer, Taylor & Francis, for accessing E-Journals and E-Books.

                The library is fully automated using RFID technology with the help of SOUL 2.0 software developed by the INFLIBNET center Ahmedabad. It is the first library in Assam and one of the few libraries in North East India fully automated using RFID technology enabling self-issue and return facility and dual lane gate security system. The library is also equipped with CCTV for the surveillance purpose. It has successfully launched dedicated Web OPAC with separate server. Users can search its holdings from anywhere anytime. After launching Web OPAC, the library has become the one of the few libraries in NE India providing such facilities. The library is dedicated to serve the users with highest degree of professionalism and upgrades with the technological advancement frequently. The library provides separate conference room, teachers study room, digital library facility with latest computers for the users. Central library also provides Android application for the members of library to access library facilities easily. 260 users can sit and study at the time excluding teachers reading facility and digital library section.

                Innovative services like “Library on Demand” where problems of the users are solved through telephone and Campus Delivery System of the reading materials has been introduced which has received tremendous support from all sections. Community Outreach programme are being conducted through our Career Counselling Cell of the Library. Numbers of such programs have



Rules and Regulations


Rules of Lending of Books

  • The privilege of borrowing books from the library is restricted to the registered members only.
  • Central Library is open every day from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
  • Each member will have a RFID Identity Card cum Reader's Ticket according to the category to which he/she belongs to.

  • The Identity Card cum Reader's Ticket is not transferable.

  • Student members must come to the library personally and Issue/Return the books at the Shelf Check Station.

  • Membership of a student shall remain valid till he/she remains on the role of the Institute.

  • The librarian may recall any book from member at any time.

  • Loose issues of periodicals are not for issue except for faculty members for only one day.

  • NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE/CLEARANCE: A No Objection Certificate/ Clearance may be issued to members only on returning all books borrowed and surrendering the reader’s ticket.

  • RENEWAL OF BOOKS ON LOAN: The books lent out to a member may be renewed provided the books in question are not reserved by other users.

  • RESERVATION OF BOOK: A member may get book(s) reserved for loan by filling in a prescribed reservation form available at the Circulation Counter. If the member fails to collect the books(s) within 5 days from the date of intimation; the reservation may be forfeited and such book(s) may be issue to other members.

Loss of Library Identity Card cum Reader's Ticket

The loss of RFID Library Identity Card cum Readers Ticket should be reported immediately in writing to the Librarian and a fine of Rs.100/- will be charged for re-issue of a duplicate ticket.

Loss or Damage of Borrowed Books

The loss of books borrowed by a user in his/her custody, the borrower shall be liable to replace the book or bear the cost of replacement. If the replacement is not done within 15 days, the defaulter will be charged as follows:
  • Three times the cost of the book, if the book is in print

  • Four times the cost of the book, if the book is out of print

  • If the book of a multi-volume set is lost or damaged, the member concerned shall be liable to replace the whole set or pay the cost of the same on the above line.



General Rules

  • All kinds of personal belongings except notebook are supposed to be kept in the property counter at the entrance.

  • Silence is must inside the library.

  • Proper dress code should be maintain inside the library.

  • Library infrastructure should be maintain properly.

  • Mobile phone in silent mode is permissible inside the library and may be used for messaging, accessing internet for educational purpose and accessing Library Mobile App.

  • Use of mobile phone in any form except mentioned above is strictly prohibited and punishable as per the institutional rules.

  • Member shall not smoke or spite in any part of the library.

  • While browsing books, no book should be replaced by the user on the stack themselves.

  • Books once picked out from the stack should be left in the reading table if not issued out.

  • The physical condition of the book should be checked while checking out. Mutilation of pages if found is to be brought to the notice of the circulation in-charge. Otherwise, the borrower himself/herself shall be responsible for mutilation of the book if detected afterwards.

  • Underlining, marking, folding of pages, etc. in the book is strictly prohibited.

  • Upon any infringement of the library rules, members shall forfeit privileges of admission and membership of the library.

  • The librarian reserves the right to suspend or delinquent membership of any member found misbehaving, abusing the library staff or behaving in an indecent manner.

  • The members caught tearing of pages/stealing books or otherwise mutilating books will be suspended forthwith from using library facilities and further disciplinary action will be initiated against him/her by the Institute.

Library capacity and Infrastructure


  • Library is situated on 22,000 sq. fet land and having Ground plus 1 independent building.

  • Coordinate of Central Library is 26°28'45.2"N 90°18'08.3"E.

  • It contains of Digital Library (02) with capacity 40 for members with high speed internet facility for accessing the eResources over internet, Magazine section, 260 seat capacity for reading, 44 comfortable seat for reading, conference hall, Technical section, cafeteria inside the library.

  • The Library is fully equipped with Centrally Air condition System and CCTV Surveillance System.

  • Currently Library is having more than 90,000 books including fields like Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, English, Bodo, Assamese, Communication Skills, Library & Information Science, Sociology, Economics, etc.

  • Library has more than 1,365 magazines, Major Daily newspapers, 5000 CD/DVDs and 60,727 eBooks.
